TFNB Your Bank For Life offers free leadership training to dozens of area nonprofits

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - More than 50 area nonprofits gathered under one roof for free leadership training as TFNB Your Bank for Life marked 10 years of its successful Charity Champions program.

Charity Champions are nonprofits chosen each year by TFNB employees after being nominated by the community. Each nonprofit receives an awareness marketing campaign and leadership training at no charge to the nonprofit.

The leadership training consists of five sessions between January and May. Wednesday’s event at Ridgewood Country Club marked the first gathering of the year.

“Today was amazing,” a member of the Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition said. “We learned about emotional intelligence and how to apply it on our owns lives, in our teams and how to apply it to our own organizations.”

Chip Wilson is the CEO of 360 Solutions, a marketing company in Waco which has partnered with TFNB Your Bank for Life from the very beginning of the effort.
Wilson, who trains business leaders around the country, leads the leadership training for Charity Champions.

He focused his session Wednesday on emotional intelligence.

“It applies to every single person in that room and is one of our favorite subjects,” Wilson said.

Wilson said Charity Champions lives by its motto of “one a Charity Champion, always a Charity Champion’ as it invites both current and past winners back each year for the training.

“I see people who have been coming back year after year after year and brand new people who are involved in it,” Wilson said. “It’s really humbling and exciting to see the growth of this program over the last 10 years.”

Tim Packer is one who has taken advantage of that opportunity as executive director at The Cove, Heart of Texas, which has a mission to end youth homelessness.

His group has attended the free seminars many times and said they learn something new each time.

“I’ve been a Charity Champion for a while and I love learning more about emotional intelligence and just seeing some of the things that I can apply in my role at The Cove in thinking about understanding more about people’s intents and intents with their actions,” Packer said.

Charity Champions are also recognized at every Baylor home football game on the field.
